Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman, who will compete in the Moto2 world championship in San Marino on Sept 15, clocked 1:54.775 in the practice session.
PETALING JAYA: Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman kicked off the penultimate round of the Petronas Asia Road Racing Championships (ARRC) at the Autopolis International Race Course in Japan on a positive note Thursday.
The Malaysian registered the third fastest time in the SuperSports 600cc practice session. The Musashi Boon Siew Honda Racing rider, who will compete in the Moto2 world championship in San Marino on Sept 15, clocked 1:54.775.
BEET Kawasaki Racing’s Katsuaki Fujiwara used his experience to dominate the practice session. The Japanese clocked a new lap record of 1:53.747, beating the 1:54.413 set last year.
Japanese wildcard rider Shinichi Nakatomi posted the second fastest time. The RC Koshien rider, who claimed a double victory at Suzuka last weekend, stopped the clock at 1:54.035.
“We already anticipated Fujiwara to be the fastest here as this is Kawasaki’s home ground. But we did not expect to be a second apart. We have a lot of catching up to do,” said Azlan.
In the Underbone 115cc class, Norizman Ismail of Harian Metro Y-TEQ SCK Honda was the fastest Malaysian after clocking 1:31.791 for fourth spot.
Indonesian Hadi Wijaya of R9 Racing Team was the fastest, clocking 1:31.171.
