PM wants hockey team to be fully committed

PUTRAJAYA (Bernama): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak wants the Malaysian hockey players to play with full commitment and dedication.

The Prime Minister hosted a lunch reception at Seri Perdana on Monday for the national hockey squad that finished third at the recent Champions Challenge I in Kuantan.

Also present was Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

In his speech, Najib praised the hockey squad for showing a high level of commitment, discipline and team spirit.

“Do not be obsessed with the ranking of other teams. What is important is to follow instructions and play according to the tactics outlined by the coach,” he said.

The Malaysian team departs on May 23 for the World Cup in The Hague Holland, which starts on May 31.

Malaysia are in Group A with Australia, Belgium, India, Spain and England. Group B comprises Germany, Holland, New Zealand, South Korea, Argentina and South Africa.
