It’s farewell to Paul Revington

KUALA LUMPUR: Former national hockey coach Paul Revington is thankful to Malaysian hockey fans and officials for their support in the past 18 months of his tenure.

The South African, who cited personal reasons for quitting as national chief coach of the senior team recently, said that he enjoyed coaching the Malaysian team and was full of praise for the players.

He was speaking at a farewell gathering organised by some friends at a hotel here on Saturday.

“I’m touched by this gesture ... really, it has touched me and my wife Sandy immensely. For that we are grateful. Some of those present here are total strangers and we appreciate their support,” said Revington.

“It has been a memorable stay here. We’ll never forget this country ... as Sandy will deliver our twins early next month. It’s truly amazing.”

Among those present were Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) senior vice-president S. Shamala and vice-president M. Gobinathan; Olympic Council of Malaysia honorary secretary Datuk Sieh Kok Chi, former Malaysian Hockey Federation secretaries Datuk G. Vijayanathan, T. Paramalingam and Hashim Mohd Yusof; former internationals Datuk Ow Soon Kooi, S. Kuhan, Mirnawan Nawawi and I. Vikneswaran; former national coach C. Paramalingam; and other Selangor Hockey Association officials.
