KUALA LUMPUR: Pahang’s Mohamed Aminuddin Abu was banned for two years for a doping offence.
But with just a month to go before the end of his ban, Aminuddin defied the decision to play in the Razak Cup in Kuantan last month. He was caught and now faces the prospect of another two-year suspension for breaching his ban.
Aminuddin’s case will be dealt with by the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) disciplinary board. They, however, have yet to fix the date for the hearing.
“The disciplinary board has been informed of the case. They are still waiting for the various reports to come in before the hearing can be held,” said MHC secretary general Mohamed Johari Abdul Aziz.
The Anti-Doping Agency of Malaysia (Adamas) are keeping an eye on the issue.
Said Adamas head Nishel Kumar: “The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) want to know what further action is taken on the player. This is the first time we have come across a situation where the player has defied his ban. There is no precedent but there is no reason why another two-year ban cannot be imposed on the player.”
Aminuddin, 23, played for Pahang in the opening match against Perak in the Razak Cup. But a complaint was lodged against him the next day and he was immediately thrown out of the championship by tournament director Brian Fernandez.
The Pahang team officials are also expected to be hauled up for registering a banned player and for not checking on Aminuddin’s status before registering him.
