KUALA LUMPUR: Paul Revington has decided to stay on as the national hockey coach.
The South African made the decision yesterday after a meeting with Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah and National Sports Council (NSC) director general Datuk Seri Zolkples Embong. Also present were MHF senior vice president Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad and national team manager George Koshy.
It was a short meeting and all of them emerged with smiles on their faces.
Zolkples was relieved that the matter was resolved.
“Revington will fulfil the contract he signed with us. He has a two by two year contract which will end at the end of the 2016 Rio Olympics. For now, his task is to get the national team into next year’s World Cup.
“Revington did not set any new conditions during the meeting. Tengku Abdullah called for a fresh start. He asked all of us to put aside the issue and look forward. I think it is a good call and we should now concentrate on the team and stay focused on our objective. There is no point dwelling in the past,” said Zolkples.
“The main point here is that everyone of us wanted Revington to stay and the decision was left to him to decide. Revington has done a good job and I am sure he will continue to improve the team,” he added.
As for the MHC, they released a statement after the meeting saying they were delighted that Revington would fulfil his contract.
