PETALING JAYA: Danny Chia and Nicholas Fung will be hoping to make the most of the lucrative back-to-back Hong Kong Open and Macau Open in the next two weeks as they seek to strengthen their positions on the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
The US$1.3mil (RM4.23mil) Hong Kong Open gets under way at the Hong Kong Golf Club tomorrow while the US$900,000 (RM2.94mil) Macau Open will take place on Oct 23-26.
The two tournaments will also serve as warm-up events for the Malaysian pair before they return home for the US$7mil (RM22.88mil) CIMB Classic at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) from Oct 30-Nov 2.
Danny and Nicholas have yet to make a strong impression on this year’s Tour and will need to be in the top-60 bracket if they are to keep their Tour cards for 2015.
Nicholas, who has earned US$38,670 (RM126,680) from eight events thus far, is ranked 43rd while one-time Asian Tour winner Danny sits in 55th spot with US$24,991 (RM81,580) from seven tournaments.
In the Asian Development Tour (ADT), an in-form Arie Irawan Ahmad Fauzi is continuing his chase for Asian Tour qualification at the Chang Hwa Open in Taiwan beginning tomorrow.
The 24-year-old is currently No. 6 on the Order of Merit following seven top-10 finishes this season. Another impressive finish will surely edge him closer towards the top five – which is the cut-off to earn an Asian Tour card for 2015.
