Jackson putts into lead at PGM Sarawak

England

PETALING JAYA: England’s Grant Jackson birdied four of the last five holes for an opening round six-under 66 – and the lead – at the PGM MNRB Sarawak Championship.

Thailand’s Tirawat Kaewsiribandit was equally impressive at the Sarawak Golf Club in Kuching on Wednesday, firing six birdies against one bogey to settled for second spot – just one stroke behind Jackson – in the RM250,000 Asian Development Tour (ADT) co-sanctioned event.

Shaaban Hussin struck a 68 to emerge as the top local performer and joint third spot alongside Australia’s Michael Moore, England’s Shaun Malone and Thailand’s Pasamet Pogamnerd.

The 32-year-old Jackson was delighted with his opening day effort, having just recovered from an illness.

“I played nice and solid,” said Jackson. “Conditions were great on the course ... it’s as good as it has been this year.

“Hopefully, I’ll continue to play good over the next few days.”

Shaaban, who enjoyed two recent top-10s on the ADT, thanked his putter for putting him in contention for a first ADT victory.

“I hit the ball well and putted really good,” said Shaaban.

“I hope to keep it going as the greens here are tricky.”
