PETALING JAYA: Gavin Kyle Green’s historical triumph at last Sunday’s PGM Vascory Templer Park Championship has propelled the Malaysian No. 1 amateur up in the latest Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).
The 20-year-old enjoyed a massive rise of 378 rungs to No. 597 following the precious six OWGR points collected from his stunning 11-shot victory at the co-sanctioned Asian Development Tour (ADT) event at the Templer Park Country Club.
It was Gavin first professional victory. He also emerged as the first amateur winner since the ADT’s inception in 2010.
The latest rankings list placed Gavin as the third highest ranked Malaysian in the world behind Nicholas Fung (274th) and Danny Chia (495th).
Gavin, who is currently on semester break, is expected to turn pro next year after completing his final year studies at the University of New Mexico in the United States.
