KUALA LUMPUR: Welshman Jamie Donaldson is playing the best golf of his career and is looking forward to the inaugural EurAsia Cup, which will begin at the Glenmarie Golf & Country Club on Thursday.
The world No. 27, who will use the tournament as preparation for this autumn’s Ryder Cup battle with the United States at Gleneagles, is a big fan of matchplay golf.
“My golf is in great shape now ... finishing as runner-up in Doral at the WGC Cadillac Championship two weeks ago has given me a lot of confidence and I always enjoy playing in Asia,” said the Welsh golf wizard.
“The people are always friendly and I like competing in warm weather. I’m excited to be a member of Team Europe taking on Team Asia.
“This meet is ideal preparation for the Ryder Cup. The EurAsia Cup is the Ryder Cup of the East ... it is set to be a great tournament and it’s definitely great practice for what lies ahead in September.
“My favourite aspect of matchplay golf is definitely the support from spectators. The crowd is always that bit different for matchplay ... it’s great when people are calling for you and your team, it really spurs you on.”
The 38-year-old is part of Team Europe, captained by Spanish great Miguel Angel Jimenez.
They’ll be up against Team Asia, captained by Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee – the only man to win three Asian Tour Order of Merit titles.
Tickets for the inaugural EurAsia Cup, presented by DRB-HICOM, are available online at www.ticketpro.com.my or by phone at (03) 7880 7999.
Entry is free for children aged below 16. Entry is also free to all on Wednesday for the pro-am.
