KUALA LUMPUR: Tickets are now on sale for the inaugural EurAsia Cup, which will pit Team Asia against Team Europe in a Ryder Cup-style showdown at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club in Shah Alam from March 27-29.
A ticket for each day of the three-day competition is priced at RM78 while a season pass is priced at RM158. It is free of charge for children under the age of 16.
To further promote the showdown of the best golfers from the two regions, Asian Tour director of communications Chuah Choo Chiang said: “The organisers have come out with an innovative new club sponsorship programme to raise awareness of the EurAsia Cup among the active golfers in the region. A total of 30 leading golf clubs have been invited to participate in this programme.
“It is called the EurAsia Cup Club Medal programme. The winners will get a cap and receive free tickets to the inaugural tournament.”
Team Asia will be led by playing captain Thongchai Jaidee. To date, he has picked Asian Tour No. 1 Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Siddikur Rahman, Anirban Lahiri, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Koumei Oda, Hideto Tanihara, Kim Hyung-sung and local star Nicholas Fung. There is one more slot for Thongchai to fill.
Miguel Angel Jimenez will spearhead Team Europe and he has two more slots to fill. So far, the Spaniard has named Graeme McDowell, Thomas Bjorn, Victor Dubuisson, Jamie Donaldson, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, Joost Luiten and Stephen Gallacher.
Five fourball matches will be played on the first day of the US$4mil (RR13.2mil) competition. The following day, five foursome matches will be staged. On the final day, 10 singles matches will be held.
The EurAsia Cup is presented by DRB-HICOM.
It is sanctioned by the Asian and European Tours. The Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) will act as the local facilitator for the event.
