SUBANG: R. Nachimuthu is at the threshold of a huge success after a sterling performance in the third round of the Maybank Tour Players’ Championship at the Saujana Golf and Country Resort.
Nachimuthu, who is still winless in the PGM Tour this season, carded a six-under 66 on Friday for a three-day total of 206 – and enjoy a four-stroke lead over Airil Rizman and Sukree Othman, who both carded identical two-under 70s.
Overnight leader Hans Jamil dropped to fourth – and seven strokes behind Nachimuthu – in the RM350,000 tournament after a disastrous three-over 75 on Friday.
Ben Leong is another stroke adrift after playing an even par round.
Nachimuthu could have had a blemish-free round if not for a bogey on the par-four second hole. He marked his back nine with an eagle on the par-four 11th.
The 42-year-old can’t wait for the final round to start.
“Everything went well today, especially my putting. I struck the ball well off the tee and my iron shots were good too,” he said.
“I’m just hoping my putting will still be very good tomorrow so I can finish on top.”
