PETALING JAYA: Malaysians Nicholas Fung and Iain Steel blew up in the opening round of the Asian Development Tour (ADT) Chang Hwa Open in Taipei as local hopes Lee Chia-hao and Liu Yu-jui shared the lead with a five-under 66.
Khor Kheng Hwai was the best Malaysian in the fray with a four-over 75 while Nicholas, who is second in the Order of Merit list, is a further four strokes adrift on 79.
Steel, who is also looking to seal third spot in the Order of Merit, carded a six-over 77 at the Chang Hwa Golf Club on Thursday.
The top three in the Order of Merit, which American James Bowen currently leads, will get to play in the Asian Tour next year.
The Chang Hwa Open is the penultimate tournament before the ADT heads to the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) in Bukit Kiara for the final round on Nov 7-10.
