This is how it's done. Malaysia's Michelle Koh aims to be the best amateur finisher in the 2013 Sime Darby LPGA golf championship. The STAR/ Azman Ghani.
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Michelle Koh is on course to cap off her debut at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia as the best amateur finisher.
The 23-year-old is currently tied 62nd with fellow amateur Shi Yuting of China and Paraguay’s Julieta Granada after finishing round three of the competition with a three-over 74 yesterday for a three-day total of seven-over 220. The only other amateur Chang Yu Shin of Taiwan is last with a three-day total of 39-over 252.
“On my first time out, finishing as the best amateur would be really good. But I’ll have to keep that target aside first and focus on what’s more important,” said Michelle, who also has a chance of finishing as the overall best performing Malaysian today.
“I’m just going to go out and play, just as I’ve done this week. I’m going to keep calm and stick with my strategy on the back nine like today ... hit lots of fairways and greens and the good putts will lie in and just give me a lot more opportunities,”
Yesterday, Michelle, who started off on the back nine, got into some early trouble after she bogeyed the first two holes and then double-bogeyed on the 16th.
“I had a rough start today. I was five-over after nine and I wasn’t putting it very well in the beginning but I managed to come back on the back nine (front nine) which was good,” she said.
“(After the 18th hole) I just told myself, ‘Enough is enough, you’ve got to buck up, keep your chin up and go out there and play’ and I managed to sort of pick up some good putts and boosted my confidence and along the way I got two birdies and that covered up for it,” she continued.
Meanwhile, it was a tough day for the other Malaysians as Cindy Lee-Pridgen carded a three-over 74 for a three-day total of 12-over 225 to place 67th, just ahead of Sabahan Aretha Pan who finished 68th.
The 19-year-old Aretha, who started on the back nine, had a double bogey on the 16th and ended up picking up a further three double-bogeys on the second, seventh and ninth holes to end the day with a 12-over 83.
