PETALING JAYA: The Harimau Muda Under-16 boys move closer to the Frenz Asia Champions Trophy (ACT) Under-16 championship title after edging PVF Vietnam 2-1 in the first-leg final at the Thong Nhat Stadium on Monday.

Midfielder Muhammad Najimuddin Samat emerged as the hero after firing the winner in the 75th minute.

Earlier, M. Kogileswaran Raj had given the Malaysians the lead after converting a spotkick in the 40th minute but PVF Vietnam got back into the game with Le Ngoc Bao’s equaliser in 74th minute.

Coach S. Balachandran will now shift his focus to the team’s preparation for the AFC Under-16 Finals in Bangkok next month.

The team will play a friendly against the visiting Uzbekistan Under-16 side on Thursday before they host the Vietnamese in the return-leg final on Aug 31.
