PETALING JAYA: The Harimau Muda Under-16 side reached the final of the Asia Champions Trophy (ACT) football tournament after knocking out defending champions Chonburi FC of Thailand 3-0 in the semi-final, second leg in Chonburi.
Mohd Najmuddin Samat (58th), Mohd Zulkhairi Mohd (61st) and Kogisleswaran Raj (89th) scored the goals to secure a 6-1 aggregate win.
The Malaysians, preparing for next month’s Asian Under-16 Finals in Bangkok, won 3-1 in the first leg in Janda Baik, Pahang, last week.
The Harimau Muda side will face PVF of Vietnam in the two-leg final. The Vietnamese defeated Frenz United Malaysia 4-0 on aggregate in the other semi-final.
The first-leg final will be played in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday with the return leg in Janda Baik on Aug 30.
The champions will receive RM165,000 while runners-up will get RM80,000. The third and fourth-placed teams will pocket RM40,000 and RM24,000 respectively.
