Reuban set to make a comeback in Malaysia Cup

KUALA LUMPUR: Armed Forces defender K. Reuben is ready to strut his stuff again after being sidelined by an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during a Super League match in February.

The rightback is set to make a comeback in the Malaysia Cup, which begins on Aug 13. The Kajang-born player helped Forces made the 2012 final and the quarter-finals last season. Although still undergoing rehabilitation, Reuben looked sharp as he scaled a 3m high wall in the PUMA Forever Faster launch at the Berjaya Times Square here on Thursday. National athletes – swimmer Khoo Cai Lin and squash player Low Wee Wern – were also at the launch.

“I’m feeling good now. I don’t feel any pain in my knee and I also played in a number of friendly matches for Forces. I just need to get back my match fitness again,” said Reuben.

“Coach B. Sathianathan will choose the best players for the Malaysia Cup and that’s why I’ll train even harder to improve my play to return to the squad,” he added.

The Gladiators are drawn with Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), Kelantan and Penang in Group C. They will start their campaign against Premier League outfit Penang on Aug 13 followed by JDT (Aug 19) and Kelantan (Aug 22).
