Young Tigers face must-win situation to stay in ACT

PETALING JAYA: Only a win can save Malaysia’s Harimau Muda Under-16 team from being dumped out of the Asia Champions Trophy (ACT).

The young Tigers are second in Group A with 17 points, just one ahead of third-placed Frenz United Indonesia and need maximum points against leaders PVF Vietnam tomorrow at the Janda Baik Stadium in Pahang to make the last four. PVF Vietnam are through to the last four, having garnered 25 points.

A draw won’t be enough for S. Balachandran’s side if Frenz United Indonesia beat bottom side Home United FC Singapore at the Bishan Stadium in Singapore on Saturday.

In Group B, Frenz United Malaysia are through to the semi-finals. They edged Myanmar Academy FC 2-1 last week to maintain second spot on 22 points. Thailand’s Chonburi FC lead the group with 23 points.

Frenz United Malaysia will play  Myanmar Academy FC in the reverse fixture in Yangon on Saturday.
