Coach Mehmet confident Selangor can still win

PETALING JAYA: It ain’t over till the fat lady sings.

Selangor coach Mehmet Durakovic is optimistic the Red Giants can still clinch the league title.

With just one more match remaining, Selangor face a daunting task to overtake Super League leaders Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT).

The Red Giants are now on 40 points, one point behind leaders JDT.

In the final round of matches on Wednesday, JDT travel to Sarawak while Selangor will take on relegated PKNS at the Shah Alam Stadium.

“The title race is never over till the last game and we will have to play our best game against PKNS.

“In football you can’t take your opponents lightly and if we look at this season, any team can be beaten.

“We must focus on the PKNS match for 90 minutes, whatever happens in the other match doesn’t matter ... we need to win our match first,” said the former Selangor great.

On Saturday, Selangor thumped Sarawak 3-0 with Brazilian striker Paulo Rangel bagging a brace in the 42nd and 60th minute while Ahmad Hazwan Bakri sealed full points with his first goal of the season in the 64th minute.

The 48-year-old Australian said that Sarawak are a difficult opponent to beat at home.

“Last night, Rangel wanted to win badly after missing the last two matches. And with him back in the squad, we can beat any team.

“We might have beaten Sarawak 3-0 but it was not an easy match. They were dangerous although they didn’t have their foreign players for the match and they can certainly create an upset.”
