PETALING JAYA: Hosts Perlis have selected to be in Group A with defending champions Sabah, Pahang and Sarawak in the men’s football competition for the Sukma (Malaysia Games) from May 24-June 4.
As hosts, Perlis were given the privilege to pick the group they wished to feature in.
Perlis coach Yusri Che Lah said being in a tough group would bring the best out of his players.
“It is a calculated risk to play in Group A. I think that if we want to be champions, we should not be afraid to face anyone in the competition,” said the former international.
Two groups have only three teams each. Perak, Terengganu and Kedah are in Group B while Negri Sembilan, Johor and Kelantan are in Group D.
Group C consists of Federal Territories, Selangor, Penang and Malacca.
Yusri said playing in a three-team group could be risky.
“There are not enough points to be won,” he said.
Group A: Sabah, Pahang, Perlis, Sarawak.
Group B: Perak, Terengganu, Kedah.
Group C: Federal Territories, Selangor, Penang, Malacca.
Group D: Negri Sembilan, Johor, Kelantan.
