Abdul Rahman worried about Turtles’ away form

PETALING JAYA: Terengganu coach Abdul Rahman Ibrahim is worried about the Turtles’ away form.

The former national coach said the players must raise their game in away matches if they hoped to be crowned Super League champions.

“We are looking for our first away win of the season. The competition is not about winning the home games alone but away matches, too,” said Abdul Rahman on Friday.

The east coast side are the league leaders with three home wins and a draw. But in the two away matches, they lost 1-0 to Perak and drew 0-0 with Lions XII.

It was the same in the FA Cup. They defeated Kuantan Port Authority 4-0 at home in the opening round, but lost 2-1 to PKNS FC in the second round away game.

In fact, Terengganu do not have a good record playing away. Last season, they managed only three wins from their 11 away matches.

Abdul Rahman hopes the team will record their first away win of the season against Sime Darby FC at the Selayang Stadium on Saturday.

“We need to consolidate our position at the top of the standings. It is a good start but the players must understand that life at the top is going to be tough. This is a test of character and how they are going to cope with this situation.

“The players are playing well at home. It has been competitive. At times we have been lucky with narrow wins. The good thing is that we are improving from game to game. I hope being at the top will inspire them to do better,” said Abdul Rahman.

A solitary goal from Cameroonian defender Vincent Bikana in the 16th minute was enough to give Terengganu three points at home against Johor Darul Ta’zim last week. The win lifted them to the top of the standings with 13 points after six matches and they still have a game in hand.
