PETALING JAYA: Unruly fans have cost three state FAs and a club side a total fine of RM75,000.
The FA of Malaysia (FAM) disciplinary committee chairman Datuk Taufek Abdul Razak said most of the cases were due to fans letting off flares and smoke bombs at home matches.
“We have issued the minimum fine of RM5,000 on these teams and warned them that they would face a stiffer penalty next time, with the maximum fine of RM100,000,” said Taufek at a press conference at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya on Thursday.
The Pahang FA were slapped with the heftiest fine – RM30,000 – for two separate incidents involving their home matches at the Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan. They were found guilty of six charges and were deemed to have not provided adequate security during the matches against Lions XII on Jan 17 and Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) on Feb 7.
The Perak FA were fined RM20,000 after being found guilty of four charges during the home game against Terengganu at the Perak Stadium in Ipoh on Jan 25. Their fans had lit flares and firecrackers after the home team had scored and also after the game. They were also punished for the lack of adequate security at the stadium.
The Selangor FA were fined RM15,000 after they were found guilty of three charges during their home game against T-Team at the MBPJ Stadium in Kelana Jaya on Jan 18. The fans had lit flares and entered the pitch after the game. Selangor were also fined for the lack of security.
T-Team were found guilty of two charges during their home game against JDT at the Sultan Ismail Stadium in Kuala Terengganu on Jan 25. They were fined RM10,000 for the fans’ invasion of the pitch and entering a restricted area after the game.
In another case, the Sarawak FA have pleaded not guilty for their supporters’ actions during their away game against Armed Forces at the Selayang Stadium on Jan 18. The fans were alleged to have let off flares and caused security problems. Taufek said FAM would gather more evidence before proceeding with the case.
