PETALING JAYA: Brazilian hitman Paulo Rangel is indeed in the form of his life as he plundered a brace to steer Selangor to a 2-1 win over Sime Darby FC in a Super League match at the Selayang Stadium.
Despite Rangel’s goals in the 40th and 85th minutes, it was Sime Darby who drew first blood through Mohd Failee Mohd Ghazli’s first-minute strike.
Sime Darby, who only had one foreign player to bank on in midfielder Dilshod Sharofetdinov, were undone in the second-half due to fatigue and inexperience.
Rangel, who was largely ineffective in the early stages of the match last night, came alive after the break following the introduction of Indonesian winger Andik Vermansyah and striker Abdul Hadi Yahya in the 75th minute.
The towering Brazilian striker pounced on Sime Darby’s lapse of concentration to grab the equaliser before heading in the winner five minutes before time.
His brace propelled him to the top of the goalscorer’s chart with five goals from four matches and the Red Giants top the standings with nine points.
Khairul Ezuan Razali scored a goal in stoppage time to help T-Team hold Armed Forces to a 2-2 draw at the Sultan Ismail Stadium in Kuala Terengganu.
Azlan Ismail had put the Titans ahead in the 14th minute before Norfazli Alias and Bruno Martelotto added a goal each for the soldiers in the 40th and 63rd minutes.
Just when it looked like Forces were heading for a win, Khairul popped up with the equaliser in the very last minute.
In Ipoh, Mohd Khairul Asyraf was the hero after scoring a late goal in Perak’s 2-1 win over Kelantan at the Perak Stadium.
Ahmad Shukri Hamid put the home team ahead in the 13th minute before Mohd Shawky hit back for the Red Warriors in the 55th minute. Khairul got the winner in the 79th minute.
At the Jalan Besar Stadium, Terengganu held Lions XII to a 0-0 draw.
