Last minute heartbreak for JDT

KUANTAN: Mohd Hafiz Kamal’s last-gasp winner handed Pahang a dramatic 3-2 win over Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in a volatile Super League match at the Darul Makmur Stadium here.

The 35,000 fans were treated to an action-packed fare as Matias Conti (13th minute) and Fauzi Roslan (48th) scored for the home team while Pablo Aimar (44th) and Safee Sali (73rd) replied for the visitors on Friday.

It needed Hafiz’s stoppage-time winner, off a corner kick, to settle matters.

The match was so tense that things could have blown up at the final whistle if JDT’s Luciano Figueroa had not been restrained by his team-mates.

There was no repeat of the infamous “Larkin tunnel” fiasco on Friday night. Instead, there was a sporting gesture displayed by both sets of players when they trooped off happily at half-time, with the score tied at 1-1.

They were some heated moments, though, espcially between Pahang’s Damion Stewart and Figueroa but the game was generally played in the right spirit.

Friday night’s game meant more than just three points for Pahang. It was also a chance to make amends to the home fans after the last meeting between the two sides ended in chaos when the return-leg of the FA Cup semi-finals was abandoned due to crowd problems.

On Friday night, Pahang dominated the proceedings and should have easily taken a comfortable lead in the first-half if not for their goal-shy strikers.
