PUTRAJAYA: Ambitious Police are counting on coach Dollah Salleh to work his magic again in the Premier League.
Dollah, who is known as the man with the “Midas Touch”, has guided three Premier League sides back to the top flight – MPPJ FC in 2004, Selangor in 2005 and Pahang in 2012.
“I have been in this position many times with Premier League sides. The task this time is no different ... to help rebuild the team and win promotion,” said Dollah, who has his sights on the Premier League title following the signings of Brazilians Rafael Souza Silva Novais and Charles Souza Chad.
“Our strike force is quite potent ... I’m more worried about our defence. We brought in Muslim Ahmad but he still needs time to settle down,” he told a press conference after the squad’s official launch on Tuesday.
The 50-year-old Dollah is one of the more successful coaches in the M-League. Last year, he guided Pahang to the coveted Malaysia Cup crown – after 21 years.
His best achievement was with Selangor, whom he guided to the treble – Premier League, FA Cup and Malaysia Cup – in 2005. He also led MPPJ to become the first-ever club to win the Malaysia Cup in 2003, when they beat Sabah 3-0 in the final.
Police’s patron, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, has challenged the squad to win the Premier League and qualify for the Super League.
However, the Home Minister reminded the squad that stern action would be taken against anyone involved in match-fixing.
“I know what to do if it occurs. The action that will be taken on the culprits will be devastating ... so, I hope all will heed my advice,” he said.
