MADRID (Reuters) - Real Betis have sacked coach Pepe Mel after the club's poor start to the season left them bottom of La Liga after 15 matches and appointed former Villarreal and Club Bruges coach Juan Carlos Garrido in his place.

Seville-based Betis finished seventh last season and qualified for the Europa League but competing in two competitions appears to have taken a toll on the squad and they have won just two La Liga games and have only 10 points.
