All set for Malaysian football's biggest night. - The STAR/ Azhar Mahfof
SHAH ALAM: Rain or shine, nothing was going to stop Pahang and Kelantan fans from flooding Shah Alam Stadium with an array of cheers in a sea of red and yellow.
All the way from the east coast, the more than 80,000 supporters certainly did not travel the distance to just watch the Malaysia Cup final and sit quietly.
Instead the supporters made a ground shaking display of support for the team.
The stadium was filled with lights as if it was a concert, except the rock stars were the players of both teams.
The whole stadium was dominated by the drums of the Elephant army striking fear and the confidence of the Red Warriors had everyone filled with excitement.
With smiles, cheers and of course hunger for glory, it could only conjure a great finale in an atmosphere unlike any other.
The Pahang fans were certainly the louder bunch between the two group of supporters as they want to end a 21-year drought in this tournament while Kelantan supporters had only one thing on their minds - to retain the Malaysia Cup.
Whoever wins, the fans will have enough time to celebrate (or lament) because both the state governments of Kelantan and Pahang have declared Monday a state holiday.
The stadium was filled to the brim four hours before the kick-off. There was a massive traffic jam with roads leading to the stadium narrowed down to a single lane due to vehicles double parking. The traffic control was poor.
The crowd kept on swelling despite the full capacity and even the buffer zone was taken up by fans leaving a thin line between the two rival fans.
Both sets of fans came well equipped with their banners and placards making a spectacular scene at the stadium. The Kelantan fans had a banner read: This is Kota Bharu 2" boasting that the Red Warriors are regulars in the final, while the Pahang camp's message was "Amok Tok Gajah".
The fans are ready, the atmosphere is electric, the players are poised. Let the game begin!
