PETALING JAYA: Armed Forces defender Amiridzwan Taj Tajuddin may be frustrated at not playing in Friday night’s Malaysia Cup semi-final first-leg match against Kelantan at the Selayang Stadium, but he hopes his team-mates will go all out for a win.
The towering centreback has to sit out after picking up a red card in the 4-1 win over Lions XII in the second leg of the quarter-final on Oct 4.
Amiridzwan admitted he’s frustrated and hopes that his team-mates do him a favour and beat Kelantan so he can feature in the final.
The 1.85m player claimed Forces have beaten Kelantan before and they know the Red Warriors’ weaknesses.
“We worked hard to reach this stage but I have to miss it. It’s very frustrating for me as I’m really on form at the moment,” said the 27-year-old Kota Baru local.
“The team is on fire and peaking at the right time after a slow start in the group stages. We have strong team spirit and I believe we can win the tie and advance to the final.”
Kelantan beat Forces to the Malaysia Cup crown in the final last season but the Gladiators avenged the defeat by edging the East Coast giants 4-3 in the penalty shoot-out at the Charity Shield after the match ended 1-1 in regulation time.
Forces also went one up against Kelantan by ending their 42-match unbeaten home record with a 3-1 win in a Super League match in Kota Baru in April.
“We lost to Kelantan in the last edition of the Malaysia Cup final but since then we have beaten them in the Charity Shield and we are also the first team to beat them on their home ground.
“I think the advantage is with us now ... we have played them often and we now know how to play them,” added Amiridzwan.
