PETALING JAYA: Substitute Rozaimi Abdul Rahman was the hero for Harimau Muda A, scoring a brace in the 4-2 win over Sriwijaya FC in their final Group A match of the invitational Menpora Cup at the Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung on Tuesday.
The Malaysians got off to a bright start with A. Thamil Arasu on target after only 12 minutes. Sriwijaya, however, drew level 14 minutes later through Alan Marta.
Nippy winger D. Saarvindran then put Harimau Muda A back in front in the 35th minute. Again, Sriwijaya fought back with veteran striker Tantan’s strike in the 44th minute.
Striker Rozaimi, who came on as a substitute in the second half, then came to the rescue with goals in the 50th and 56th minutes for Malaysia to register their first win in the tournament.
Coach Ong Kim Swee’s men started their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Indonesian side Persib Bandung on Friday.
On Sunday, the Malaysians went down 2-0 to A-League runners-up Central Coast Mariners.
