Karlo Primorac: 'We are doing well and are on the verge of creating history by qualifying for the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals for the first time.'
PETALING JAYA: Sime Darby FC hitman Karlo Primorac is all set to fire his team into the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Cup when they take on Armed Forces in their final Group A match at the Selayang Stadium Saturday night.
Both teams are tied with eight points after playing five matches but Forces top the group on a better goal difference and Primorac, who has hit four goals in five matches, hopes to score against the Super League side.
Primorac, the Premier League’s top scorer with 24 goals, could not find the back of the net when Sime Darby beat Armed Forces 4-3 earlier in their campaign but provided two assists in the shock win.
“Armed Forces are a very strong team and their foreign players Bruno (Martelotto) and Marlon (James) are very good players who can make the difference in the match,” said the 29-year-old hitman on Friday.
“We beat them 4-3 before and we need to win again to confirm our berth in the quarter-finals and I’m ready to do my best for a win. I hope to score but what’s much more important is a win for us.”
The former Dynamo Zagreb player added that he had a great season thus far but decided to play down his team’s chances by saying Sime Darby are the underdogs in the competition.
Primorac pointed out that despite being a young side, Sime Darby have experienced players in their line-up and this has provided stability to the side.
“We are doing well and are on the verge of creating history by qualifying for the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals for the first time,” said the former Croatian Under-21 international.
“I believe I have improved a lot in the Malaysia Cup and shown that I can score against top sides but honestly I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself by saying how many goals I will score.
“I believe we can do more in the competition. The team might be newcomers in the M-League but we have experienced players with us and we will try to create history for the club.”
