We have our own committee to probe match-fixing: Johor

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Football Association (JFA) have rebutted claims made by the FA of Malaysia (FAM) that the state had yet to set up the Integrity Committee to fight match-fixing.

The JFA said in a statement Wednesday that they had set up their own committee – called the Investigation, Security, and Medical Committee and not the Integrity Committee – as recommended by the Youth and Sports Ministry and FAM.

JFA said they had been working closely with police to conduct investigations on allegations of match-fixing involving their players and officials since last year.

“We informed FAM about the matter during a meeting which was attended by our secretary Mohd Fahmy Yahya recently,” said JFA in a statement, adding that the committee was headed by state police

chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff.

However, the JFA will change the name of their committee to the Integrity Committee in accordance with the FAM ruling as soon as possible.

FAM general secretary Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin had announced that only three out of their 20 affiliates – Johor, Penang and Sarawak – did not set up their Integrity Committees last year.

The purpose of the committee, comprising two affiliate members and a representative each from the police and the state anti-corruption commission, is to look into match-fixing allegations.
