Frenz United Malaysia B players preparing for the Asean Champions Trophy Under-15 semi-finals. The team will be out to avenge their 2-1 loss to Chonburi in the second-leg of the semis.
PETALING JAYA: Frenz United Malaysia B will leave no stone unturned as they seek to overturn Chonburi FC’s narrow 2-1 lead in the second-leg of the Asean Champions Trophy Under-15 football semi-finals at the Janda Baik Stadium in Pahang Wednesday night (8.45pm).
Head coach Zolkipli Samion believes that his boys have a fighting chance to avenge the first-leg loss to the Thai side as the away-goal rule does not apply in this competition.
“All we need is to pressure our opponents and score an early goal. We’ve watched video clips of the first-leg match in Chonburi and identified several areas which we can exploit if we play according to our game plan,” said Zolkipli.
The only setback for the Malaysian team is that ace striker Mohd Akhmal Nasir has been ruled out of the competition with knee injury, which he suffered last month.
However, Zolkipli is optimistic that his forwards – Mohd Ruzaini Rusli, Wan Mohd Adli and Mohd Alfeeq – will be able to deliver the goods.
In the first-leg, the Thais led through Samart Authairatsamee’s goal in the 13th minute before Muhamad Ad Deen equalised in the 23rd minute.
Saharat Sontisawat nailed the winner for the Thais in the 72nd minute.
The other semi-final sees Frenz United Malaysia A trailing Frenz United Indonesia by a similar scoreline after the first-leg match in Bandung on Sunday. The second-leg will be held at the Janda Baik Stadium Thursday.
Twelve teams from 11 nations are competing in the four-month long championship, which offers US$100,000 (about RM327,000) in prize money.
The home-away final ties will be held on Aug 28 (first-leg) and Sept 1 (return leg).
