It's Malaysia Cup or goodbye Irfan

PETALING JAYA: It’s the Malaysia Cup or goodbye for Selangor coach Irfan Bakti.

The FA of Selangor (FAS) had issued a tall order to Irfan at the beginning of the season: deliver at least one trophy this season.

This is because they do not want the Red Giants to finish empty-handed for the third year in a row.

Having failed to win the FA Cup and the Super League, the Malaysia Cup, which kicks off next month, is the only trophy left for Selangor to pursue.
“The Malaysia Cup is our last chance and we have to be at our best,” said Irfan.

He added that the team would be ready to make amends after having failed in three competitions.

“It’s the fasting month and we have arranged some friendlies to give them the competitive edge. We’re aware of what’s at stake and want to re-establish our image in Malaysian football.”

Selangor were the most successful team in Malaysian football with a record of 32 Malaysia Cup plus five League and FA Cup titles under their belts. But things have gone all wrong in the last two seasons.
