Verona snap up veteran striker Toni

ROME: Veteran Italian striker Luca Toni has signed a one-year deal with newly-promoted Verona, the Serie A club announced Friday.

Toni, 36, was a free agent following his departure from Fiorentina, where he scored eight goals in 27 appearances last season in what was his second spell with the Florence club.

A World Cup winner with Italy in 2006, Toni also won the European Golden Shoe that same season as he plundered opposing defences for 31 goals during his first stint with La Viola.

He then spent three years at Bayern Munich (2007-2010) before fleeting spells at Roma, Genoa, Juventus and Al Nasr in the United Arab Emirates prior to his return to Fiorentina. – AFP
