GLASGOW: The Commonwealth Games is not at the top of national cyclist Mohd Rizal Tisin’s priority list.

The 30-year-old is only using the Glasgow outing as a platform to get the tournament feel again after taking a three-year break.

His main goal is to strike it right at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, in September.

So, if he were to win any medal in the 1km time trial on Saturday at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, it will be a bonus for him.

He did well at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi four years ago when he clinched a silver in the 1km time trial in 1:02.768.

“I have not set any targets for this event. It will be awesome if I can clock a faster time,” said Rizal, who will be competing in his third Commonwealth Games.

“I only started training under John (Beasley) in Melbourne in March … it will be quite difficult to peak here.

“But John has brought me here with one single mission – to see how I handle the fierce competition. It will prepare me mentally for the next big one – the Asiad.

“It will be my third Asiad and I’m eyeing a good showing.”

Rizal said he missed cycling terribly during his three-year hiatus.

“I took the break because I couldn’t get leave from my employers – the Public Services Commission. But in fairness to them, I had also taken a three-year leave prior to that.

“Another reason why I left in 2011 was also because my event was not contested in the 2012 London Olympics. It made perfect sense to take a break.

“And now that I have been seconded to the National Sports Council (NSC), I have no problems when it comes to taking leave.

“I got back on the bike last year because I was itching for some top level competition. It is great to be in the thick of action once again,” added Rizal, who will also take part in the team sprint event with Azizulhasni Awang, Josiah Ng and Muhd Edrus Yunos.
