PETALING JAYA: Sin Li Jane is definitely on a roll.
The 22-year-old continued her run of red-hot form by retaining her Singapore Open crown – her third title of the season – by seeing off home favourite Shayna Ng.
Li Jane downed 2012 AMF Qubica World Cup champion Shayna 258-235, 223-221 at Orchard Bowl on Saturday.
She had earlier bagged the Euro Med Storm International in Philippines last month and National Championship in April.
It was also Li Jane’s third Singapore Open crown, having won it the first time in 2010.
But hopes of seeing a Malaysian double in the Singapore Open were dashed when national back-up bowler Ahmad Muaz Fishol went down tamely 175-207 to Singapore’s Vincent Lim in the Men’s Open title decider.
Last year, Adrian Ang took the honours in the men’s Open for a Malaysian clean sweep.
The delighted Li Jane said: “The most difficult part was staying focused in the final because Shayna’s a good bowler ... it was a great win against her.
“There was a bit of pressure playing as a defending champion. I’ve never entered a tournament with that status and end up retaining the title ... this is my first time.”
Li Jane attributed her success to head coach Holloway Cheah, whose advice for her to switch balls worked wonders.
Li Jane was Malaysia’s sole representative in the stepladder semi-final, which featured the top four qualifiers from the Round 2 finals.
She finished in second spot after amassing 1,776 pinfalls over eight games ahead of Singapore’s Kristin Quah (1,776) and Lara Posadas of Philippines (1,747). Shayna topped the standings with 1,848.
In the semi-finals, Li Jane posted a high game of 247 to eliminate Lara (184) and Kristin (213) and earn her title shot against Shayna.
Ahmad Muaz, who ended the Round 2 finals in third, advanced to the title decider after chalking up 245 to beat Vietnam’s Nguyen Thanh Pho (226) and Muhd Jaris Goh (193).
