Kedah duo win mixed bowling gold

KANGAR: Kedah bowler Nur Ameera Husna Aznel made up for missing the last Sukma in Pahang by winning the mixed doubles gold medal at the Perlis Bowl with partner Ahmad Muaz Fishol.

The duo knocked down a total of 2,563 pins on Saturday to claim the gold medal. Sarawak’s Muhd Syafiq Sajeli and Nerosha Keligit (2555) took silver while Sabah’s Mohd Ainal Narshad and Steffira Zeandea Greater (2535) settled for bronze.

This is also Ameera’s first Sukma appearance and her first medal as she had opted to participate in the Asian School Bowling Championships in Indonesia during the Pahang Games in 2012.

“It feels like a dream. We played in the third squad and took pole position. But we had to wait for the results from the final squad before we could celebrate,” said the 17-year-old, who took up bowling about 10 years ago.

In the Asian School Bowling Championships, Ameera was the only Malaysian to qualify for the Masters – finishing in 13th place.

Meanwhile, national back-up bowler Muaz will focus on completing his mission here by winning a second gold.

“I’m glad I’ve won my first gold medal here. Now, it’s time to go for my second gold,” said Muaz.
