PETALING JAYA: South Korea made a clean sweep of the Masters gold medals in the Asian Youth Championships in Hong Kong yesterday.
In the boys’ events, Lee-Kyu-hwan defeated Lee Ik-kyu 426-385 over two games in the all-Korean final.
The girls’ final was also an all-Korean affair with Choi Ae-rim beating Kim Jin-sun 516-466 to clinch the gold.
With the two titles, South Korea emerged overall champions with a haul of four golds, five silvers and a bronze. Indonesia finished second with a 2-1-5 haul.
Malaysia were placed third with two golds and a silver. Malaysia’s golds came from the boys’ singles (Chong Jun Foo) and girls’ doubles (Victoria Chin-Faten Najihah Ahmad Faik) while Jonathan Ding Sagan-Wan Nadzmi Fikri Ahmad Faisal finished second in the boys’ doubles.
