KUALA LUMPUR: Shuttler Lee Chong Wei’s resolve was put to the test before qualifying for the men’s singles quarter-finals in the US Open Grand Prix Gold.
On Thursday, unseeded Chong Wei had to dig deep into his reserves to beat unheralded Kai Guo of China 21-17, 22-20 in a 43-minute third-round match in New York. It was one of Chong Wei’s toughest matches since he made his return to competitive badminton last month after serving an eight-month ban over a doping violation. He also played in the Sudirman Cup and the recent SEA Games in Singapore.
