KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia are set to cross swords with top seeds China in the semi-finals of the men’s team event at the Incheon Asian Games in South Korea from Sept 19-Oct 4.
In a draw ceremony in Incheon yesterday, fourth seeds Malaysia were drawn in the same half with China. Both teams were given first-round byes.
Malaysia will take on the winners of the Macau-Mongolia clash while China will play the Hong Kong-Maldives winners in the quarter-finals.
China will be boosted by the presence of five-time world champion Lin Dan in the second singles. After a shocking defeat to Japan in the semi-finals of the Thomas Cup Finals in New Delhi in May, China are expected to bounce back to win the gold.
In the women’s team competition, Malaysia are seeded eighth. They are expected to meet top seeds China in the quarter-finals.
