KUALA LUMPUR: Former international Razif Sidek will not act as an assessor for the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) unless he is given an official letter of appointment.
As of Monday, Razif still had not received any official appointment letter from BAM’s president Tengku Tan Sri Mahaleel Tengku Ariff although he had requested for it several times.
Last year, Razif was brought in as an assessor in September and given several roles. He was to assess the national players and coaches, and he was even sent as team manager to the Denmark Open in Odense in October.
“I am in the dark. I am an assessor to the public but on paper, there is nothing official. I have spoken with BAM’s president about this but I have still not received any appointment letter,” said Razif.
“I came in to help without receiving any payment but served on a voluntary basis. It is difficult to command respect from the players and coaches when nothing is official. In fact, I have not been involved in any decision making for the past few weeks.”
With Razif’s status in the dark, the only other assessor in BAM is Tan Kim Her.
Kim Her however, is playing a dual role - as an assessor and the national doubles coach.
Currently, Penang BA president Dr Koay Ban Hing has stepped in to play a significant role in most of the decision making as far as plans and selection of athletes for international tournaments are concerned.
