Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying defeated Indonesia’s Markis Kido-Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth 21-18, 21-19 in their Group A match.
KUALA LUMPUR: With fate in their own hands, mixed pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying finally stepped up when it mattered most to seal their place in the semi-finals of the Super Series Finals.
The match which only started at 11.40pm due to the long delays, saw Peng Soon-Liu Ying secure a 21-18, 21-19 win over Indonesia’s Markis Kido-Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth.
With England’s Chris Adcock-Gabrielle Adcock falling to a defeat to Zhang Nan-Zhao Yunlei earlier, all Peng Soon-Liu Ying needed to do was to avoid a defeat.
Although they started shakily against the Indonesian siblings, Peng Soon-Liu Ying held their nerves to take the first game 21-18.
They raced to a 7-0 lead in the second, and although they lost focus midway through, recovered well to finish the match … to the relief of everyone in the stadium.
With the win, Peng Soon-Liu Ying finished second in Group A. They will face Zhang Nan-Zhao Yunlei again in the semi-finals.
