The wrath of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) fell on two Thailand players - Bodin Issara and Maneepong Jongjit - with the world body serving them with a suspension on Monday.
Bodin has been banned for two years from all tournaments sanctioned by BWF while Maneepong was sentenced three months.
The decision comes in the wake of Bodin and Maneepong’s ugly brawl during the final of the Canadian Open two weeks ago, which marred the image of badminton.
Bodin, who kicked and punched Maneepong, was also docked of his world ranking and prize money earned from the tournament.
The penalty is effective from the day the incident took place - on July 21 and both players have 21 days to appeal.
Both the 22-year-olds Bodin and Maneepong were also served with a similar punishment by the Badminton Association of Thailand (BAT) last week. Bodin was handed a two-year ban while Maneepong was suspended for three months, which ruled him out of the ongoing World Championships.
