Women's pairs hoping to avoid first round exit

THE Malaysian women doubles shuttlers are not expected to go far in the World Championships and even a quarter-final finish will be considered a big achievement.

Three pairs – Goh Liu Ying-Lim Yin Loo, Ng Hui Lin-Ng Hui Ern and Amelia Anscelly-Soong Fie Cho will be hoping to avoid a first round disaster and join Malaysia’s top pair Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei in the second round.

Vivian and Khe Wei have been given a first round bye.

The others in action on Monday are the mixed doubles pair of Tan Aik Quan-Lai Pei Jing, Ong Jian Guo-Yin Loo and they too will be hoping to join fifth seeds Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying in the second round.

In the men singles, the focus will be on Lee Chong Wei, Liew Daren and Chong Wei Feng in the opener. They face Scott Evans of Ireland, Vladimir Malkov of Russia and Rajiv Ouseph of England respectively.

The first round of the women’s singles and men’s doubles will take place on Tuesday.
