Sky’s the limit for female Qatari athlete Mariam

Remember her name: 17-year-old female Qatari athlete Mariam Farid is set to star for her country in the future.

A DECADE ago, you wouldn’t have heard of anyone talking about women taking up sport in Qatar.

But all that changed when Noor Hussain Al-Malki made a breakthrough – becoming the first Qatari woman to compete at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. She was among four women athletes from Qatar at the Games.
