ANOTHER round of price increase for cigarettes took effect on Nov 4. Many of my friends who pledged to quit smoking if the price of their cigarette packet breached the RM15 mark will have to make good on their word now. A few of them are contemplating quitting in due course but I don’t think they will. Once a smoker, always a smoker!
A smoker friend of mine once claimed that a doctor told him to quit smoking only if he was 40 years old or below, and that he might as well continue if he was above 40. The doctor’s justification was that the lungs and other internal organs of smokers below the age of 40 would still be in good condition and free from cancer-causing agents. Meanwhile, the lungs and other internal organs of smokers 40 years old and above are already damaged and would not recover even if they stopped smoking.
