AS a society, Malaysians, I believe, are entrenched in a “high tolerance culture”, and this may be one of the major stumbling blocks in our progress to becoming a developed society. Let’s look at its various manifestations to understand what this high tolerance culture is.
The first manifestation is the way we react to indiscriminate parking. Go to any township – Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Ipoh etc. – where there is a bank and you will notice motorists parking outside the premises with total disregard to the flow of traffic. It’s the same scene at night markets and even at KLIA where people just park where they like.
