THIS year’s World Suicide Prevention theme, “Preventing Suicide: Reaching out and Saving Lives”, focuses on the actions that need to be taken to support individuals and communities affected by suicide.
The World Suicide Report released by WHO last year provides a comprehensive and significant summary of all the relevant major studies undertaken globally on this topic. Consider for a moment this sobering statistic from the report – over 800,000 people die by suicide or “a death every 40 seconds” across the world each year.
