Reach out and save lives

THIS year’s World Suicide Preven­tion theme, “Preventing Suicide: Reaching out and Saving Lives”, fo­­cuses on the actions that need to be taken to support individuals and communities affected by suicide.

The World Suicide Report released by WHO last year provides a comprehensive and significant summary of all the relevant major studies undertaken globally on this topic. Consider for a moment this sobering statistic from the report – over 800,000 people die by suicide or “a death every 40 seconds” across the world each year.
