Tackle the trade in illicit cigarettes as well

IN light of the recent proposal by the Health Ministry to make the entire country a smoke-free zone, I wonder what it plans to do to curb illicit cigarettes being smuggled into the country? It’s an issue that poses a larger threat to our nation.

The creation of more smoke-free zones, reducing the number of outlets selling cigarettes and gradually increasing the price and duty on cigarettes are all notable efforts. But they are pointless if the trade in illicit cigarettes is still rampant.
