I AM writing to say well done and bless you to Philip Golingai for putting “One Man’s Meat” on a plate decorated with beautiful syrup in his view of the meaning of respect and tolerance in our Malaysian society, “It’s all about discretion, not compulsion” (The Star, June 27).

Congratulations also to deputy Education Minister Datuk Mary Yap. I certainly cannot accept a teacher, even though he claimed that he did it jokingly, saying “jangan minum air kencing kamu pula (don’t you instead drink your own urine)’’ when advising non-Muslim students to not drink in front of students who were fasting.
