THE Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) would like to state that the views expressed by the secretary of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) in the article “Getting titles right in the engineering field” (The Star, May 15) are incorrect and misleading.
BEM is the regulatory body formed by an act of Parliament in 1967 to regulate the practice of engineering in Malaysia. BEM operates under the Registration of Engineers Act 1967 (REA 1967), which aims to protect and safeguard public interest and safety.
